September 7 : Minnesota Vikings (1-0) 30, Green Bay Packers (0-1) 25
(Green Bay) - Randy Moss turned the Lambeau Field rededication into his own party. Moss caught nine passes for 150 yards and a touchdown as the Vikings beat the Packers in front of a record crowd of 70,505 at the remodeled stadium Sunday at Green Bay. The Vikings, who snapped a 12-game losing streak outdoors, built a 27-3 lead and then held off Green Bay's furious rally. Javon Walker's 24- yard touchdown catch pulled Green Bay to 30-25 with 1 minute, 55 seconds remaining. But Ryan Longwell's onside kick went out of bounds, and the Vikings took over thanks to a new NFL rule that doesn't allow a rekick with less than five minutes left. And Minnesota ran out the clock. Daunte Culpepper threw three touchdown passes and the Vikings' defense forced four turnovers from the out-of-sync Packers in the first half.

(Green Bay) - Ahman Green rushed 23 times for 160 yards, including a 65-yarder for a score on his first carry. The Packers (1-1) picked off three of Joey Harrington's passes in the second half and sent the Lions (1-1) to their 17th straight road loss on a field drenched by nearly 3 inches of rain in 48 hours. Green became the fourth running back in Packers history to top 4,000 career yards. Al Harris capped the scoring with a 56-yard interception return for a touchdown.

September 21 : Arizona Cardinals (1-2) 20, Green Bay Packers (1-2) 13
(Arizona) - The Arizona Cardinals beat the heat and the wilting Green Bay Packers for their first victory of the season. The Cardinals upset the Packers 20-13 on Sunday at aptly named Sun Devil Stadium, where it was 102 degrees at kickoff and 106 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The 106 degrees at nearby Sky Harbor Airport was a record for the date, surpassing the 105 recorded in 1949 and 1984. Brett Favre, 35-1 when it's 34 degrees or colder, is 12-18 in games when the kickoff temperature is above 70. Favre, 23-for-33 for 226 yards and a touchdown, drove the Packers (1-2) to the Arizona 7 in the final seconds. But on third-and-goal, his pass was picked off by Dexter Jackson. Jeff Blake, who completed 20 of 31 passes for 273 yards, threw a 1-yard pass to James Hodgins for the winning touchdown with 3:59 to play.

September 29 : Green Bay Packers (2-2) 38, Chicago Bears (0-3) 23
(Chicago) - Now Soldier Field or old Soldier Field, it makes little difference. Ahman Green, Brett Favre and the rest of the Green Bay Packers just love to play the Chicago Bears. Green ran for 176 yards on 19 carries, and Favre threw three touchdown passes, leading the Packers past the Bears 38-23 Monday night. The Packers (2-2) won for the 17th time in the last 19 meetings between the NFL's oldest rivals, building a 24-6 halftime lead against the winless Bears (0-3). Favre improved his career record against the Bears to 19-4 and has now directed 10 straight road wins against Chicago. He also reached another milestone, jumping ahead of Dan Fouts to No. 5 on the career passing yards list with a total of 43,089. Favre completed 21 of 30 passes for 179 yards. Green ran for two TDs — one an early 60-yarder. When the Bears got within eight points in the final quarter, Favre put it away with a pair of TD passes, a 9-yarder to Javon Walker with 8:51 remaining and a 1-yarder to Bubba Franks with 4:21 left. Favre also connected with William Henderson on a 14-yard scoring pass in the first half and now has 47 career TD passes against the Bears — his most against any team.

October 5 : Green Bay Packers (3-2) 35, Seattle Seahawks (3-1) 13
(Green Bay) - Brett Favre guided Green Bay on five consecutive touchdown drives to help the Packers beat their former coach, Mike Holmgren. That was sweet revenge for Favre, who self-destructed in Holmgren's first return to Lambeau Field, when he committed six turnovers' in a 27-7 loss to the Seahawks in 1999. Holmgren helped resurrect the Packers from 1992-98, winning one Super Bowl and two NFC crowns. This time, Favre completed 19 of 25 passes for 185 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions for Green Bay. Ahman Green ran 27 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns against his former team. Shaun Alexander gained 102 yards on 20 carries for Seattle. Josh Brown's 58-yard field goal on the final play of the first half was the longest ever kicked by any Packers opponent in Green Bay's 83-year NFL annals. The longest previous FG successes against Green Bay were a pair of a 56-yarders – by Ali Haji-Sheikh of the New York Giants at Giants Stadium Sept. 26, 1983, and by John Kasay of Carolina in Ericsson Stadium at Charlotte, Sept. 27, 1998.

October 12 : Kansas City Chiefs (6-0) 40, Green Bay Packers (3-3) 34 (OT)
(Green Bay) - For once, the Chiefs' wild finish didn't involve Dante Hall. Even with their star kick returner being kept out of the end zone for the first time in a month, the Chiefs overcame a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime, then came out on top after a crazy closing sequence to beat the Packers 40-34. Here were the final three plays of the game: Cletidus Hunt blocked Morten Andersen's 48-yard field goal attempt with 9 minutes, 9 seconds left in OT to give the Packers (3-3) possession at their 39 and the wind at their back. On first down, Packers running back Ahman Green — who ran 26 times for 139 yards — fumbled the ball, and Kansas City recovered. Chiefs quarterback Trent Green threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Eddie Kennison with 8:42 seconds left in the extra period. Simple as that, Kansas City improved to 6-0. Free safety Jerome Woods, who had a 79-yard touchdown interception return in the fourth quarter, knocked the ball loose from Ahman Green. It bounced right into the hands of linebacker Mike Maslowski. Then, with the Packers expecting run, Kennison juked Bhawoh Jue along the right sideline and caught Green's pass for the winning score. Green Bay had won 56 straight games at home after building a double-digit lead, but they blew two of them Sunday, 14-0 in the first quarter and 31-14 in the fourth.

Ahman Green entered with three straight 100-yard rushing games, totaling 433 yards in that span, but he was held to a season-worst 35 yards on 20 carries. Bruce had nine catches for 129 yards. He topped 10,000 yards in the fourth quarter. Brett Favre's record in domes fell to 12-21.

November 2 : Green Bay Packers (4-4) 30, Minnesota Vikings (6-2) 27
(Minnesota) - The Metrodome has always brought trouble for Brett Favre. Maybe he just needed to play hurt. Ignoring the broken thumb on his throwing hand, Favre passed for 194 yards and three touchdowns and the Green Bay Packers saved their season Sunday night with a 30-27 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. After two straight losses at home, the Vikings (6-2) saw their NFC North lead over the Packers (4-4) shrink to two games. Two of Javon Walker's three receptions went for Green Bay touchdowns, and Ahman Green rushed 21 times for 137 yards — plus five catches for 52 yards and a score. Favre, who improved to 3-9 in his career in the Vikings' noisy, climate-controlled home, completed 18 of 28 passes and threw one interception. He extended his consecutive starts streak to 198, an NFL record by a quarterback. Daunte Culpepper threw two touchdown passes without an interception for Minnesota and plunged in from the 1-yard line with 33 seconds left to cut Green Bay's lead to three. The onside kick was recovered by the Packers' Darren Sharper.

(Green Bay) - Donovan McNabb threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Todd Pinkston with 27 seconds left to give the Philadelphia Eagles a 17-14 victory over the Green Bay Packers on a rainy Monday night. Pinkston caught his first touchdown pass of the season when he beat cornerback Bhawoh Jue off the line and got free in the left side of the end zone. The Eagles stayed one game behind Dallas in the NFC East and the Packers fell two games behind Minnesota in the NFC North. Philadelphia started the winning drive at its 35 with 2:42 remaining and McNabb completed passes of 11 yards to Duce Staley and 20 yards to Chad Lewis. The Packers drove to midfield with eight seconds left when Brett Favre, playing with a broken right thumb, fumbled for the third time, sealing Green Bay's third home loss of the season. Ahman Green rushed for a team-record 192 yards and scored on a 45-yard run and a 24-yard screen pass, but he fumbled two more times, giving him an NFL-leading seven. His 45-yard TD on fourth-and-1 with seven minutes left gave Green Bay a 14-10 lead.

November 16 : Green Bay Packers (5-5) 20, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-6) 13
(Tampa Bay) - Brett Favre played with a broken right thumb and led a 98-yard second-half drive to lift Green Bay. Ahman Green finished the march with a 1-yard run to help the Packers hand the Bucs their 3rd straight loss, hurting the champions' playoff chances. Green had 109 yards on 21 carries, while Favre completed 13 of 28 passes for just 92 yards and a TD. He was intercepted once, but was not sacked, ending Tampa's league-record streak of 69 consecutive games with at least one sack.

He also surpassed John Brockington as the second-leading rusher in team history, trailing only Jim Taylor. The Packers were clinging to a 19-14 lead when McKenzie stepped in front of receiver Dez White and picked off Kordell Stewart's pass at his 10-yard line and ran it all the way back. Packers RB Ahman Green ran 30 times for 80 yards. He needed 92 to break Jim Taylor's 41-yearold single-season rushing record, the oldest team rushing mark in the NFL. Jerry Azumah returned a kickoff for an 88-yard score for the Bears, who took a quick 14-0 lead but they turned the ball over five times.

(San Diego) - Brett Favre threw a season-high four touchdown passes and joined Ahman Green and kicker Ryan Longwell in setting franchise records in a win that kept the Packers alive in the NFC North title race. With Minnesota losing 13-10 at Chicago, the Vikings and Packers are both 8-6 atop the NFC North. However, the Vikings hold the edge based on the fourth tiebreaker, conference records. Minnesota is 7-4 and the Packers are 7-5. Both teams are finished with their division schedule, and the Packers are done with NFC opponents. Favre threw three TD passes in the fourth quarter after the Packers fell behind the Chargers. Green broke the oldest team single-season rushing record in the NFL, eclipsing Hall of Famer Jim Taylor's mark of 1,474 yards set in 1962. And Longwell had eight points to break Don Hutson's career scoring record. Longwell got his 824th career point on a PAT following Robert Ferguson's 40-yard touchdown catch. Hutson had 823 points in his Hall of Fame career.

December 22 : Green Bay Packers (9-6) 41, Oakland Raiders (4-11) 7
(Oakland) - Brett Favre dealt with the grief in the best way he could imagine. He played his heavy heart out. Favre passed for 399 yards and four touchdowns a day after his father's death, moving into second place in NFL history for career TD passes while leading the Packers on Monday night. With one spectacular long pass after another, Favre decimated the Raiders' patchwork defense with one of the greatest performances in his 13-year career. He finished just 3 yards shy of his career high while sending the Raiders to their worst loss in eight years. Favre threw for a personal-best 311 yards and four TDs in the first half, quickly turning a crucial game for the Packers' playoff hopes into a blowout victory — and he did it on one of the saddest days of his life. Irvin Favre died of a heart attack Sunday night while driving near his son's hometown of Kiln, Miss. Brett decided to stay with the Packers (9-6) long enough to lead a victory that kept them in a tie with Minnesota atop the NFC North. Favre was 22-of-30, smiling and hugging his teammates throughout the game. In the fourth quarter, he embraced his wife, Deanna, before they headed home to Mississippi. Though the formula is complicated, Green Bay can all but clinch a playoff berth with a victory over Denver on Sunday — and if the Vikings lose to Arizona, the Packers will win their second straight division title. With the first of two first-half scoring passes to Javon Walker, Favre passed Fran Tarkenton on the NFL's career list with his 343rd career TD throw. The three-time MVP finished with 345, trailing only Dan Marino's 420. Favre got a respectful ovation from the normally vicious Raider Nation when he was announced as a starter in his 205th consecutive game.

Ahman Green reeled off a 98-yard touchdown run and Brett Favre completed a hard week in which he buried his father to lead Green Bay. The Packers had little hope of playing into January only minutes earlier. They celebrated wildly on the sideline after their crowd, listening on radios, broke into frenzied elation over the fourth-down pass in Arizona. Denver rested its starters for its playoff game next Sunday in Indianapolis. The Packers will host the Seattle Seahawks (10-6) and former coach Mike Holmgren on Sunday. The Packers beat the Seahawks 35-13 at home on Oct. 5. Green set a franchise record with 218 yards rushing and ran for two scores, giving him 20 and breaking Jim Taylor's record of 19 set in 1962.
Arizona 18, Minnesota 17 - Arizona knocked the Vikings out of the playoffs Sunday with a fourth-down miracle. Josh McCown threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Poole on fourth-and-25 as time expired, rallying the Cardinals. That left the Vikings at 9- 7 and gave the division title to the Packers, who beat Denver 31-3. Had the Vikings won, Green Bay would have been eliminated on a series of BCS-type tiebreakers. Poole caught the ball near the sideline in the end zone, where officials ruled he was forced out by Minnesota's Denard Walker and called it a touchdown. A video review upheld the call. Minnesota led 17-6 with two minutes left. But Arizona (4-12) cut the lead to 17-12 on McCown's fourthdown 2-yard pass to Steve Bush with 1:54 to play. Damien Anderson recovered the onside kick for Arizona, and a 30-yard pass-interference call against Walker put the Cardinals in scoring position.

(Green Bay) - Al Harris never got a chance for a Lambeau Leap. By the time he thought about it, he was buried under an avalanche of teammates. His long dreadlocks flapping outside his helmet in the frigid wind, Harris streamed down the sideline with a 52-yard interception return in overtime. That touchdown lifted the Green Bay Packers past the Seattle Seahawks 33-27 in a first-round NFC playoff game. The cornerback picked off Matt Hasselbeck's throw and headed to the end zone -- directly past former Packers coach Mike Holmgren. Only Hasselbeck had a chance to tackle Harris, but he couldn't get there. Harris scored the first defensive touchdown to win an overtime playoff game in NFL history. Once he got to the end zone, his teammates tackled him, setting off a wild celebration, including Harris slapping hands with fans in the stands on a 100-yard victory lap. His heroics sent the Packers to Philadelphia next week, while the Seahawks go home knowing they let a prime opportunity slip away. Seattle tied it with 51 seconds remaining on Shaun Alexander's third 1-yard touchdown run. Then Packers kicker Ryan Longwell was short on a 47-yard field goal attempt as regulation time expired. Seattle won the coin toss, and Hasselbeck told the official, "We want the ball, and we're going to score." The Seahawks got the ball, but punted. After Seattle got the ball back, it was Harris, a six-year veteran in his first season with the Packers, who scored on the game's only turnover. Hasselbeck had a pretty good day, throwing for 305 yards. He also made the one critical mistake after recognizing a Packers blitz. Favre, as usual, thrived in the cold: 20 degrees, with a wind chill of 7. He set a record by throwing for a touchdown in a 14th straight playoff game and rallied the Packers to a 27-20 lead. Then Hasselbeck, once Favre's backup in Green Bay, guided a 67-yard drive to tie it. But the Packers gutted out the victory one year after losing a
home playoff game for the first time ever, to Atlanta.
(Philadelphia) - As the clock ticked down in regulation, Donovan McNabb saved Philadelphia's season -- and a city's psyche. And with one desperation heave, Brett Favre threw away Green Bay's chance at another Super Bowl. In a battle of two the NFL's elite quarterbacks, McNabb and the Eagles prevailed 20-17 in overtime, as Brian Dawkins ' interception of a high Favre heave set up David Akers ' winning field goal. The pick was pivotal, but this was really about McNabb. With the Eagles trailing 17-14 and 1:12 left in regulation, he breathed life into his team with a 28-yard completion to Freddie Mitchell on a fourth-and-26. That, in turn, led to a 37-yard field goal by Akers that sent the game into overtime. McNabb set a playoff record for quarterbacks by rushing for 107 yards, throwing for 248 yards and two touchdowns -- 355 total yards. The win puts the Eagles into their third straight NFC title game next Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Philadelphia lost the last two -- at home to Tampa Bay and in St. Louis. Duce Staley had two big runs -- one for 22 on the Eagles' first play of their final drive and another of 11 yards in overtime to help set up the tying field goal. Staley's contribution was especially needed with the Eagles missing all-purpose running back Brian Westbrook, who scored 13 touchdowns in the regular season but is out with a torn triceps muscle. Favre, who was 15 of 28 for 180 yards, did not talk after the game. Neither did Ahman Green, who ran for 156 yards. The Packers head back to Green Bay after winning seven of eight, including three straight since Favre's father died just before Christmas. The Packers led 14-7 at halftime, but the Eagles had the momentum after stopping Green on fourth down from the 1-yard line late in the second quarter. The Eagles' Corey Simon was responsible for the stop, pushing guard Mike Wahle into Green and slowing him down for Jerome McDougle and Mark Simoneau. Green Bay scored twice in the first quarter on passes of 40 and 17 yards from Favre to Robert Ferguson, the first set up by McNabb's fumble. The Eagles countered midway through the second quarter on McNabb's 7-yard TD pass to Staley. It came one play after a 45-yard completion from McNabb to Todd Pinkston. Philadelphia tied it early in the fourth quarter when McNabb scrambled out of trouble and found Pinkston just inside the pylon from 12 yards out. Favre's 44-yard pass to Javon Walker set up Ryan Longwell's 21-yard field goal that gave the Packers a 17-14 lead with 10:21 left in the fourth.

2003 IN REVIEW - With Lambeau Field's new renovation, the Packers celebrated their historic season in the first week of the season. However, the rededication was spoiled as the Packers were beaten by the Minnesota Vikings 30-25. After rebounding with a big win over the Detroit Lions the following week, the Packers wilted in the desert heat losing to the Arizona Cardinals 20-13, as the Packers struggled to a 3-4 start. Things could have gotten bleaker as Brett Favre suffered a broken thumb on his throwing hand. Ignoring the pain, Favre continued to play and carried the Pack on his shoulders with a 30-27 win on the road over the Vikings. After a loss in the rain on Monday Night to the Philadelphia Eagles, Favre led the Packers to a key win on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, keeping their playoff hopes alive at 5-5. After splitting the next two games the Packers were faced with winning the rest of the way or missing the playoffs. After winning the next two, Favre was dealt more pain as his father died of a sudden heart attack the day before a key Monday Night road game against the Oakland Raiders. Not deterred by pain or heartache, Favre had one of the best games of his career, passing for 399 yards in an impressive 41-7 win. However, heading into the final game of the season the Packers needed to win and get some help to make the playoffs as NFC North Champs after their Wild Card hopes were erased when the Cowboys lost to the New Orleans Saints. The Packers did their part easily beating the Denver Broncos 31-3, but had to look on helplessly as the Vikings were beating the hapless Cardinals 17-6 late in the fourth Quarter. However, the fates smiled down upon Green Bay as the Cardinals made a stirring comeback winning the game 18-17 on a miracle touchdown on the game's final play. The play was shown on the videoboard and Lambeau Field went nuts as the Packers won the division with a 10-6 record. In the playoffs the Packers found themselves locked in a tight game with the Seattle Seahawks as the game went back and forth and was tied 27-27 at the end of regulation. In overtime, Al Harris would be the hero, intercepting a pass from Matt Hasselbeck and returning in 52 yards for the game winner. In the Divisional Round, the Packers got off to a fast start leading the Philadelphia Eagles 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Packer offense stalled as the Eagles clawed their way back into the game tying it at 14 in the final Quarter. Green Bay responded and took the lead 17-14 on Ryan Longwell field goal with 4:38 left. The Packers defense would have the Eagles in a hole needing just one more stop on a 4th and 26. The defense softened up for a moment allowing a miracle first down as the Eagles tied the game and forced overtime. In overtime, Favre made an ill-advised pass which set up the Eagles for a chip shot game winning field goal as the Packers Super Bowl dreams ended with a heartbreaking 20-17 loss.

(CANTON) - Priest Holmes looked fine in a brief appearance, and so did Brett Favre as the Chiefs beat the Packers in the Hall of Fame game, shortened Monday night by lightning and torrential rain. The exhibition opener for both teams also had a sobering moment when Chiefs OT Willie Jones sustained a head injury late in the second quarter. A Chiefs spokesman said Jones sustained a head trauma. Kansas City had just taken a 9-0 lead on a 27-yard field goal by Jose Cortez with 5:55 left in the third quarter when several lightning bolts hit near Fawcett Stadium. Play was halted for nearly one-half hour before commissioner Paul Tagliabue decided to cancel the remainder of the game with 5:49 remaining in the third. Morten Andersen, the second-leading scorer in NFL history, kicked two field goals for the Chiefs. Holmes ran for 15 yards on five carries in his biggest test since sustaining a season-ending injury to his right hip in December. Favre was on the field for just two series. He went 4-of-6 for 54 yards, but couldn't get Green Bay's offense - missing four starters - rolling.

(ATLANTA) - Michael Vick provided a tantalizing glimpse of what the NFL can expect this season. Vick was 6-for-7 for 110 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown pass to Brian Finneran, before the Falcons squandered a big lead in their preseason opener, losing to the Packers Saturday night. Vick, voted to the Pro Bowl in his first year as a starter, showed no signs of letting up before a raucous sellout crowd that cheered his every move. Playing just the first quarter, he guided a pair of touchdown drives before another possession stalled out on downs in Green Bay territory. The Packers got off to another sloppy start. They trailed 21-3 in the second quarter and jumped offsides five times in the first half, though Atlanta declined two of the penalties. Green Bay rallied once the starters were done for the night. Najeh Davenport scored on a 3-yard run late in the first half, then sparked a 17-point third quarter with a 4-yard TD run.

(CLEVELAND) - Kelly Holcomb and Tim Couch certainly didn't make things any easier for their coach. Cleveland's two quarterbacks, neck-and-neck in their fight to be the starter, both played well in their final auditions for Butch Davis before the Packers beat the Browns 38-31 in an exhibition Friday night. Holcomb started and threw two TD passes in the first quarter before being replaced by Couch, who completed his first four passes - the last a 20-yard TD to Kevin Johnson - to give the Browns a lead in the second quarter. Green Bay's Brett Favre went 9-of-14 for 102 yards and threw one TD pass in his three series with the Packers' first-team offense, which was at full strength for the first time this preseason. Ahman Green rushed for 55 yards and scored on a 1-yard run for the Packers, who rallied behind TD runs from Herbert Goodman and Nick Luchey in the third quarter. Akili Smith's 13-yard TD shovel pass to Goodman in the fourth put the Packers up 38-28. Holcomb, a career backup, appeared to land the knockout blow in the Browns' too-close-to-call QB competition, by throwing TD passes on Cleveland's first two possessions. Holcomb finished 7-of-10 for 166 yards, making him 14-of-21 for 237 yards in two preseason games.

August 23: Carolina 20, Green Bay (2-2) 7
(GREEN BAY) - Undermined by the turnover and thwarted by a tightfisted Carolina defense, the Packers found the combination a little too much to overcome in falling to the Panthers, 20-7, in their maiden Lambeau Field appearance of the new season. Although the visitors failed to capitalize on the opportunities, three first quarter turnovers - a lost fumble and a pair of interceptions - conspired to help keep the Packers scoreless prior to the intermission - along with a holding penalty on William Henderson which wiped out a 47-yard field goal by Ryan Longwell in the closing seconds of the second quarter. Mike Sherman subsequently decided not to have Longwell essay a 57-yard field goal. He called, instead, for a punt and the principals shortly headed to their respective locker rooms in a 0-0 deadlock. The final score of the evening, a somewhat anti-climactic happening, came with only 56 seconds to play - on Carolina cornerback William Hampton's 30-yard scoring return of an interception off an Akili Smith pass. Getting back to the memorable goal-line stand, it developed after Carolina, taking over at the Green Bay 34 following Michael Rucker's recovery of a William Henderson first quarter fumble, drove to a first down at the 1-yard line in 4 plays. Four times thereafter, the Panthers projected running back Stephen Davis at the Packers' defensive front - and four times the 6-foot, 230-pound Davis was hurled back by Brown, Hannibal Navies, Chukie Nwokorie, Antuan Edwards and Nick Barnett, ultimately ending up precisely where he had started - at the one-yard line, where the Packers took over on downs. Brett Favre, in one of his lesser outings, completed 18 of 29 passes for 116 yards, with 2 interceptions. Akili Smith, the third of Green Bay's four quarterbacks to enter the game, had 3 completions in 12 attempts for 30 yards, with one interception. Craig Nall was 0-for-3 and veteran Doug Pederson did not attempt a pass during his third quarter appearance.

August 28: Tennessee 27, Green Bay (2-3) 3
(GREEN BAY) - Steve McNair made only a cameo appearance Thursday night. Brett Favre and Ahman Green didn't even do that. They were the only ones who had a short night, however. McNair took three snaps in the Titans' 27-3 victory over the Packers that included a 2-hour, 33-minute lightning delay and didn't end until early morning. Torrential rains made for a messy first half and maybe a fourth of the 69,126 fans -- who got a double dose of disappointment when Favre and Green sat out altogether -- stuck around to watch play resume at 11:01 p.m. They got a hearty laugh when the two-minute warning was announced one play later, and let out a huge cheer when it was announced that the usual 12-minute halftime would last only one. The fourth quarter didn't start until after midnight and the game ended at 12:46 a.m. The teams cleared the field with 2:05 left in the first half when thunder shook the stadium with Green Bay facing third-and-10 at midfield. Most fans immediately began clearing out of the aluminum bleacher seats and heading for the parking lots or the concourses that were widened during the recent renovation of Lambeau Field. Several thousand fans stayed put and cheered every crack of thunder for 20 minutes before they were ordered to take cover. The league wanted the game to resume. After play resumed, Ryan Longwell kicked a 40-yard field goal. The press box announcer cracked that the eight-play, 31-yard drive took 1 minute, 24 seconds "although it may have seemed like longer.'' Packers' spokesman Lee Remmel said he believed it was the first time a game had ever been suspended at Lambeau Field, which opened in 1957.

FOURTH-AND-26
As long as Packers fans get together, the statement "Fourth-and-26" will mean only one thing. On January 11, 2004, the Packers appeared poised to return to the Glory Days of the late 1990s when they traveled to Philadelphia. Leading 17-14 with 2:21 to play, the Packers had the Eagles pinned back deep, but, in the end, Philadelphia would rally to tie the game, thanks, in large part, to one heave down the middle of the field:
Philadelphia at 2:21 GNB PHI

3rd and 10 at GNB 19 - Green Bay timeout; 00:10 remaining 4th quarter
3rd and 10 at GNB 19 - 37 yard field goal by David Akers is good.
DRIVE TOTALS: PHI 12 plays, 61 yards, 2:11 drive
The game went into overtime, where Eagles star safety Brian Dawkins was able to intercept a Packers pass and return it 35 yards, setting up another Akers field goal try. The 31-yard kick was good, giving the Eagles a dramatic 20-17 victory in sudden death overtime. The play helped send the Eagles to their third straight NFC Championship Game.
Packers defensive coordinator Ed Donatell was fired by the end of the week. Donatell had decided to play a four-across zone after three straight blitzes, but head coach Mike Sherman said that call was not the reason for the team's coaching changes. He said the changes stemmed from a season-long evaluation. Donatell said "as a football coach, I should win that situation every, single time. I learned something from it. He added: "I will adjust to this and maybe good things will happen. I think there is going to be an opportunity to coach some more guys. I am up for the next shot." Assistant Bob Slowik was named the new defensive coordinator, but he left for Denver after one season.
