September 28: Chicago Bears (1-0) 24, Green Bay Packers (0-1) 14
(GREEN BAY) - In the first game at City Stadium where yard line numbers were painted on the field, Chicago rallied from a 7-3 deficit to score 17 unanswered points. The Packers staved off the mighty Bears for the first 30 minutes and held a 7-3 halftime lead. But in the final half, Bob Williams hit on 11 of 18 passes—two of them for touchdowns—to bring Chicago home the winner. Four first half Chicago drives into Packer territory were repulsed by the Green Bay line. The first three times George Blanda tried to salvage something with field goals. He kicked from the 50, 43 and 39 yard lines, but missed them all. The fourth time, Whizzer White collected a 3-pointer from the 30. A second quarter break gave the hard fighting Packers the lead. John Martinkovic blocked a punt by Fred Morrison from the Bears' end zone and Bob Forte recovered on the five. Tobin Rote's successful keeper play on third down around left end produced the touchdown. With five minutes to go in the third period, Williams threw a 25-yard scoring pass to John Dottley to shove Chicago in front. Midway in the final frame,  Williams connected for six more points, passing 16 yards to Gene Schroeder. Two minutes later Dottley slammed off the Packer left tackle and roared 44 yards practically untouched into the end zone. The Green Bay offense, operating off the straight T with a minimum of deception, scored once in the final quarter. Only five minutes showed on the clock, when Rote hit Bill Howton and the rookie end from Rice sprinted into the end rone. Howton's first touchdown pass sent him on his way to a then-NFL record 13 touchdown receptions as a rookie.

October 5: Green Bay Packers (1-1) 35, Washington Redskins (1-1) 20
(MILWAUKEE) - Curly Lambeau returned to face the Packers after being fired by the Chicago Cardinals in 1951 with two games remaining. A tough defensive line and a sterling performance by quarterback Babe Parilli landed the Packers a 35-20 victory over Curly Lambeau's Washington Redskins. Parilll, the former Kentucky star, earned his professional letter by uncorking two touchdown passes, setting up a third score and flawlessly directing the Packers on the ground and in the air. The Redskins' attack, with young Eddie LeBaron doing most of the directing, sputtered most of the way as a fired-up Green Bay line burst through repeatedly to hamer their overhead game. Parilll had a finger in all three Green Bay first half touchdowns to account for a 21-7 halftime lead. The Packers struck within the first three minutes as Parilll passed to Bill Howton in a play covering 89 yards. On the opening play of the second quarter, Parilll pitched out to Breezy Reid who went  the rest of the way from the 10. Babe followed in the same period with a 40-yard toss to Bobby Mann, who was downed on the 4. From there, Tony Canadeo scored on a wide sweep. The only tally in which Parilli was not directly involved was Fred Cone's 30-yard gallop off tackle midway in tho third quarter. Parilll flipped 28 yards to Tobin Rote, playing left half, for the last Green Bay touchdown in the final quarter. Parilll racked up 248 yards passing, while Howton caught three of his passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.

(LOS ANGELES) - Billy Howton caught six passes for 200 yards, but the Rams intercepted five passes and ended Green Bay's conference title hopes. Striking with terrific force in the third quarter, the amazing Rams defense kept the team in the running for the another conference championship by making three touchdowns and defeating the Packers. The Rams, who won their seventh straight, turned their game into a second-half rout, by scoring four times after the intermission, twice on interceptions and once on a fumble recovery. The most thrilling play of the day was Dick Lane's 80-yard TD sprint with an intercepted pass after he caught the ball and rolled on the ground for five yards before getting up.

1952 IN REVIEW: The Packers got away from their limp-rag image of recent years, showing enough life to break even in wins and losses for the first time since 1947. The team, for once, signed a strong crop of rookies. Tackle Dave Hanner, a jolly bald-headed man who used his tremendous strength on the field, and smart back Bobby Dillon, who was blind in one eye, shored up a defense that sorely needed reinforcements. On offense, Babe Parilli and Billy Howton broke into the lineup. Parilli shared the quarterback job with Tobin Rote, and both men found sure-handed Howton open for many key passes. The veterans on the team may have had a funny feeling when the Packers, for the first and only time ever in a regular season, lined up against a Curly Lambeau team. Sentiment went out the window, though, as the Packers defeated Lambeau's Redskins in October, 35-20.

(MILWAUKEE) – FB Ed Price scored a third-quarter touchdown to lead the Giants over the Packers at Marquette Stadium Saturday night. In the first game of the season for both teams, the Giants matched the running game against the accurate passing arm of the Packers' signal-caller, Tobin Rote. The game drew 22,000 fans. The game had been billed as a passing duel between Rote and Conerly. Rote made the better  appearance, connecting on 14 of 30 for 119 yards. Conerly completed eight of 15 for 37 yards. Assisting Rote, Bob Forte completed three of five  and Vito (Babe) Parilli, named most valuable player in Friday's College All-Star-Los Angeles game, got none in two tries.

The largest crowd ever to see an exhibition game here, 22,215, watched the Packers surpass the 1951 champions both on the ground and in the air. The Packers gained 89 yards rushing, 252 yards passing and made 15 first downs. The Browns had 12 first downs and made 78 yards rushing  and 103 passing. What defeated the Packers were Cleveland's long runs. The Browns scored touchdowns in the first, second and fourth quarters  to overshadow the Packers' total yardage gained. The Packers counted a safety and a touchdown in the third period and another touchdown in the fourth.

August 29: Pittsburgh Steelers 7, Green Bay Packers (0-3) 6
(LATROBE, PA) - Professional football returned to its birthplace Friday night as the Steelers edged the Packers on the strength of Gary Kerkorian's right toe. An overflow crowd of 10,000 sat through a slow first-half which found neither team able to develop any scoring punch. The Steelers moved to the Packers 24 in the first period, but Kerkorian missed a field goal try when the drive was halted. Early in the third  quarter, the Steelers struck after recovering a Green Bay fumble on their own 24. FB Ed Modzelewski took a handoff and raced through the line to the Steeler 40 where he lateralled to Lynn Chadnois who covered the remaining yards. Kerkorian then booted the all important extra point. Late in the same period the Packers marched 61 yards for their score, which was set up by a 53-yard pass play from Tobin Rote to Bob Mann, who was pulled down on the Steeler eight. The Packers then needed four downs before Floyd Reid smashed through the middle from the one.
