September 17: Green Bay (0-0-1) 7, Boston (0-0-1) 7 (Tie)
(GREEN BAY)—Stunned and surprised by a powerful and determined group of young stars, the Green Bay Packers had to be satisfied with a 7-7 tie against the Boston Redskins as the two elevens opened the NFL season on the Packers gridiron at Green Bay. The Packers, usually one of the strongest teams in the circuit, managed to take a 7-to-0 lead in the third period with two passes from the 20-yard line. The first toss, Herber to Grove, was good for 15 yards and then after two line bucks, which cost them a yard, Herber passed to Rose, who stepped over the line for six points. Grove added the extra point. Boston scored its touchdown in the closing minutes of play also via the aerial route when the Packers secondary defense became confused. Westfall passed to Franklin, who hiked 20 yards. Mustek kicked safely.

Green Bay drove deep into Bear territory in the third period and got its touchdown after Herbert threw a long pass to Smith on the 1-yard line. Buckets Goldenberg smashed through tackle for the score. Monnett kicked for the extra point. With five minutes to play in the fourth period, the Packers attempted a field goal from the 27-yard line. October 1: New York (2-1) 10, Green Bay (0-2-1) 7
(MILWAUKEE) - The Green Bay Packers, defeated 10-7 by the New York Giants, were near the NFL cellar, still looking for victory No. 1. In three starts this season, the Bays have lost two and tied one. Yesterday's game was to have been the new leaf the Packers were to turn, but their own fumbles and a brilliant Giant backneld put them on the defensive early in the game. They were behind all the day. The setting was right for a Packer victory. Answering a plea of Milwaukee fans for a game, they brought the contest to Borchert Field, home of the Milwaukee American Association baseball club. Milwaukee expressed its gratitude with a sellout crowd of 13,000. The weather was ideal. Most everyone was pulling for the Bays to begin a victory march after tying their first game with Boston and losing their second to the Chicago Bears. The backfleld combination of Harry Newman, former Michigan All-American quarterback, and Ken Strong, once a star at New York U., provided the Giants' scoring punch. Newman heaved the pass that scored the Giants' touchdown and Strong scored a field goal. One of the numerous Packer fumbles gave the Giants their flrst scoring opportunity in the first quarter. The New Yorkers were unable to gain and a place kick was decided upon. Standing on the 40-yard line, away off along the sideline and facing the wind, Strong booted the ball between the goal posts with apparent ease.

October 8: Green Bay (1-2-1) 17, Portsmouth (3-1) 0
(GREEN BAY) - Playing like the Packers of old, the Green Bay Packers defeated the NFL-leading Portsmouth Spartans, 17-0. The game was played in driving rain which made ball handling difficult but there was comparatively little fumbling. The Packers scored first in the opening period after failing in an attempt at a field goal. Taking the ball on the Spartan 18-yard line after a blocked punt, the Packers drove to the six inch line in four plays. Hank Bruder lost six Inches but scored on the next play, a cutback over right tackle. Clark Hlnkle gave the Bays three more points with a place kick from the 30-yard line early in the third period. The Packers scored in the final period after Buckets Goldenberg intercepted a Portsmouth pass on the 25-yard line. He made 14 yards in two smashes. Bruder added nine yards and Goldenberg went over on a cutback. Arnie Herber passed to Johnny Blood for the extra point. It was the only pass the Packers attempted all day.

October 15: Green Bay (2-2-1) 47, Pittsburgh (1-3) 0
(GREEN BAY) - Under a full head of steam at last, the Green Bay Packer juggernaut rumbled down on the Pittsburgh Pirates, newcomers in the NFL. It made no difference to the Bays that it was raining—they tossed passes forward and laterals, ran flashy runs and crashed the line and kicked with a confidence and power usually seen only on a dry field. They completed 10 of the 16 passes attempted. Smoothness marked the functioning of their attack. On defense the home club was equally impressive, breaking up Pirate drives before they reached the line of scrimmage. Only three of 14 passes were completed by the visitors. The Packers intercepted several. Their goal line was never threatened.

(CHICAGO) - Green Bay scored two TDs in the first quarter and crushed the Eagles in their final home game. The Eagles, viewed as easy pickings for the Packers, showed surprising strength for three quarters, only to crumple in the final period. Holding the Bays scoreless in the second, the Eagles scored when Swede Hanson received a pass from Red Kirkman and raced 35 yards to the goal. A weak snap from Al Sarafiny eluded Clarke Hinkle in the same quarter, and the latter was downed in back of the goal line for a safety. Goldenberg was high scorer for the Packers, accounting for three touchdowns, one on a plunge, one on a pass, and another when he grabbed a partially blocked punt.

November 5: Green Bay (4-3-1) 14, Chicago Cardinals (1-6) 6
(CHICAGO) - The Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Cardinals game Sunday, 14-6, in which a free-for-all fight almost developed in the third period. With Green Bay leading 7-0, Dick Nesbitt, Cardinals' fullback, punted deep into the Packers' territory. Chuck Kassell, Chicago end, grounded the ball on the one-foot line, and then an argument ensued as to whether Roger Grove, Green Bay quarterback, had touched the ball. The referee first gave the ball to Chicago on Green Bay's one-foot line, and then reversed his decision. During the argument between the officials and players, Cal Hubbard, Green Bay tackle, and Phil Handler, Chicago guard, exchanged blows. Curly Lambeau, Green Bay coach, and Paul Schissler, Chicago coach, and players of both teams rushed off the benches onto the field. Spectators also joined in the melee, and policemen and ushers bad to help clear the field before play was resumed.

The game, played in clear, crisp weather, was witnessed by 9,000 spectators. Hampered by Injuries carried over from last week's battle with the New York Giants, the Spartans played the Packers to a scoreless deadlock in the first two periods and then scored a touchdown on forward passes and line plunging in the third quarter. Ernie Cadwell carried the ball over. Portsmouth had several other chances to score, but each time the visitors interrupted their passing game. Green Bay's main threat came in the fourth period, two minutes before the final gun. Taking the ball on their own 20-yard line, the Packers marched 66 yards before Portsmouth recovered. Goldcnberg, Herber, Monnett and Blood were the ball carriers. The threat ended when Monnet passed into the end zone.

1933 IN REVIEW: The modern era of the NFL begins as divisional play begins. Playing in the Western Division, Green Bay stumble out of the gate going winless in their first three games. The Packers would only play mediocre football the rest of the way finishing with a losing record for the first time at 5-7-1. The franchise began playing a few games a season in Milwaukee to draw extra revenue, playing at old Borchett Field.
