(GREEN BAY) - On a gridiron hot enough to make waffles, the Green Bay Packers opened the professional football season by defeating the Grand Rapids Maroons. The Packers tried many men and experimented with a variety of strategies, and at the end of the day the perspiring athletes demonstrated that the Packers this year will be a machine with a crushing offensive. There seemed to be nothing to choose between new men and veterans. Green Bay used 28 men, while the Maroons tried 18. Line smashes, delayed bucks, passes and end

September 18: Green Bay (1-0) 15, Chicago Cardinals (0-1) 7
(GREEN BAY) - Green Bay opened the season with a victory over the Chicago Cardinals in a game played before 4,000 persons in a downpour of rain. Fumbles of the water-soaked ball were frequent and neither team was able to gain consistently on the slippery field. The Packers scored in the opening quarter when Nash blocked Stennett's attempted punt behind his own goal line for a safety. In the third period, after Zeller had recovered a Cardinal fumble on the Chicago 12-yard line, Herber passed to Bruder over the goal for a touchdown. Hinkle's kick from placement was blocked. Late in the third period, Stennet fumbled when attempting to kick from his own goal line. The ball rolled over the goal and Michalske fell on it for another touchdown for Green Bay. O'Boyle added the extra point with a kick from placement. The Cardinals scored in the fourth period when Stennett passed to Creighton for 15 yards to put the ball on the two yard mark and Hill went over.

September 25: Green Bay (1-0-1) 0, Chicago Bears (0-0-1) 0 (Tie)
(GREEN BAY) - Two football teams with great defensive resources battled to a scoreless tie here when the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears played before a crowd of 13,000, the largest in two years. Both sides had scoring opportunities but neither could capitalize on them due to great defensive work. The punting of Nesbitt of the Bears and of Herber and Hinkle of the Packers brought scoring chances when the ball rolled out of bounds beyond the 10-yard line, but always the teams turned in fine defensive play to stop the threats. Hinkle, a new comer to professional football, turned in a great game for Green Bay, while Nesbit, Johnsos and Molesworth were outstanding for the Bears. The tie was the first game the Packers have not won in twenty-six straight starts on the Green Bay field.

October 2: Green Bay (2-0-1) 13, New York (0-2) 0
(GREEN BAY) - The Green Bay Packers yesterday displayed first a powerful line smashing offense and then they switched to a forward passing attack to register a victory over the New York Giants. McCrary went over for the first touchdown after Engelman and Lewellen brought the ball into scoring position by long end runs. An 18-yard pass, Herber to Dilweg, put the ball on the two-yard line in the fourth period. After losing five yards on a penalty and four more on a line plunge, the Packers countered again when Bruder went through center to score. The Packers' superiority was shown by the fact that they gained 136 yards from scrimmage to 20 for the Giants and scored seven first downs to the Giants' four.

October 9: Green Bay (3-0-1) 15, Portsmouth (1-1-1) 10
(GREEN BAY) - An inspired Packer football team, fighting furiously in the fog, came up from behind to defeat the Portsmouth Spartans. It was a see-saw game, full of thrills, in which there was an expert demonstration of football strategy at its best. For a tense ten minutes, the Spartans were leading the NFL champions. Green Bay made its first touchdown in the first quarter after Lewellen had unraveled a 63 yard punt that backed the Spartans up against their goal line. Portsmouth attempted to punt, but Heller, Packer guard, broke through to block the ball while Rose fell on it for Green Bay. Thereafter it was a bitter contest but there was no more scoring until the third period when Dutch Clark went on a rampage for the Spartans. With a succession of smashes he took the ball deep into Packer territory. Then he flipped a pass to Ebding who went over for the touchdown. A moment later a poor punt by Johnny Blood gave Clark another chance. The Packer line held him, but he booted a field goal to give the Spartans the lead. In the final period Green Bay took on new life and soon had the ball deep in Spartan territory. The Spartans finally got the ball on their one yard line and rather than risk punting the wet ball from his own end zone, Clark, working on a three-point lead, chose to give Green Bay a safety. Portsmouth punted out of danger, but Green Bay came right back. Terrific charges worked the ball to Portsmouth's 22-yard line, and at that point Hinkle broke away for the winning touchdown.

October 16: Green Bay (4-0-1) 2, Chicago Bears (0-1-3) 0
(CHICAGO) - The Green Bay Packers were firmly entrenched in the leadership of the NFL as a result of a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Bears. The Packers have won four
games, lost none and tied one. The Brooklyn Dodgers, in second place, have won two, and lost two. A punt blocked by Tom Nash in the sescond period gave the Packers victory over the Bears yesterday. Dick Nesbitt's kick bounced off Nash's chest over the end zone, automatically becoming a safety. The Bears threatened frequently and in the fourth period a long argument followed when the officials refused to confirm that Bill Hewitt had recovered a loose ball in the end zone for a touchdown, claiming that Luke Johnsos had touched it before it went over the goal line. The Bears had three other chances to score but were halted.

(GREEN BAY) - The Green Bay Packers held fast to first place in the NFL by scoring a 26-0 victory over the Staten Island Stapes yesterday afternoon. The Packers had the best of it, scoring a touchdown in the second period, two in the third and another in the fourth. The game, played before 5,000 spectators, was the last home stand of the Packers this season. The victory kept intact the Packers' record of 29 straight games on the home field without a defeat. One tie mars the record. Touchdowns, resulting from a mixed passing and running attack, were scored by Grove twice, Herber and Bruder.

November 6: Green Bay (7-0-1) 19, Chicago Cardinals (2-2-2) 9
(CHICAGO) - Chicago's Cardinals could not stop Johnny Blood Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Almost without help, the veteran led the champion Packers to their seventh victory in their march for a fourth consecutive title. Twice in the first half, Blood grabbed perfectly thrown passes from the hand of Arnold Herber for touchdowns. Then in the last quarter, when the Cards had threatened to overcome the lead, Blood took another pass from Verne Lewellen and raced to the Cardinal 5-yard line. From there, the Packers counted their third touchdown, Clark Hinkle getting the credit after Hank Bruder had plunged twice for a total of four yards. The Cardinals scored when Tim Moynihan, who played furiously in the center of the Card line, took the ball after Jess Tinsley had blocked a punt with his chest and ran for a touchdown in the second quarter.

(BOSTON) - The Packers closed Boston's football season by defeating the Boston Braves, 21-0, with a sensational forward passing display at Braves Field before 20,000 yesterday. All of the Packers' scoring came through the air. In the first period, Arnold Herber scored Roger Grove with a pass from the Boston 10-yard line. Herber fed Verne Lewellen a long pass early in the second period and the halfback ran 30 yards over the Boston line. Just before the half closed, Herber threw a 35-yard pass to Johnny Blood in the Boston end zone for the final score.

November 20: New York (3-5-1) 6, Green Bay (8-1-1) 0
(NEW YORK) - Green Bay's astonishing march toward another championship finally has been checked. For the first time this season, the Packers ran into a club that could beat them as they surrendered to a surprisingly alert New York Giant eleven, 6-0. In nine previous games, the Packers had won eight and fought the Chicago Bears to a scoreless tie in the other. The Giants, with their line the deciding factor, stopped Green Bay's running and passing attack and recovered a Packer fumble at midfield to pave the way for the only touchdown of the game in the second period. Roger Grove muffed one of Flaherty's punts and the Giants recovered. Two passes, McBride to Moran and Burnett took the ball to the 30-yard stripe where McBride tossed a long aerial to Flaherty on the 5-yard line. There was not a Packer within 10 yards as "Hap" romped across the line. The Packers got within the Giants' territory only twice. The first time Herber fumbled and Badgro recovered for the Giants on their 35-yard line stripe. The second time the Giant line stopped the Packers on the 20-yard line after a long pass, Herber to Blood, had put the champions in a threatening position.

(PORTSMOUTH) - The Green Bay Packers, champions of the NFL in 1929-30-31, have been dethroned. The Portsmouth Spartans defeated Green Bay Sunday, 19-0, and eliminated the Packers from the 1932 championship. Portsmouth has completed its season with six victories, one defeat and four ties and leads the league with a percentage of .857. The final game of the season will be played next Sunday at Wrigley Field between the Bears and Green Bay. If the Bears win, they will tie Portsmouth for the title, and will meet in a post-season charity game at Cincinnati Sunday, Dec.18. If Green Bay wins or ties the Bears, Portsmouth will win the title outright. A crowd of 10,000 packed Universal Stadium to see the Spartans hand Green Bay its worst defeat since 1930. Earl (Dutch) Clark scored two touchdowns, and Glenn Presnell the other. Forward passes figured in all the scoring. Green Bay made but one threat, advancing to the 30-yard line in the final period.

(CHICAGO) - The Chicago Bears and the Portsmouth Spartans will fight it out for the league championship here Sunday in a charity game. The teams tied for the championship when the Bears defeated the Green Bay Packers on a snow-swept field Sunday. A fourth quarter offense gave the Bears victory and a tie for the title. The teams had played on fairly even terms thru three quarters under a terrific weather handicap. Then Bronko Nagurski, Bears fullback, recovered a fumble on the Packers' 24-yard line. After several plays failed to gain, Tiny Engebretsen kicked a field goal. Shortly thereafter Nagurski broke away for a 56-yard run and a touchdown. The defeat pushed the Packers, defending champions, into third place.

runs were used by the Green Bay team to score seven touchdowns. The game ended satisfactorily to the home town fans, but the Packers were a little slow about getting started. The Maroons staved off the Green Bay rushes through the first period. But the Packer power plant got under way in the second period, when they put over 25 points. In the third they added 13 more, and their final touchdown came in the fourth.

1932 IN REVIEW: At 10-1-1, Green Bay looked primed for their fourth straight Championship. However, the Packers would lose their final two games on the road against the Portsmouth Spartans and Chicago Bears, who would face each other in a playoff game for the Championship despite having fewer wins then the Packers, thanks to a number of ties that didn't count in the standings.
